I can't say that I haven't been tempted to do the same thing ... but only tempted. The one who should probably have been slapped was the mother, but who knows. 2-year olds are tough, from what I've been told.

I grew up across the ridge from Briggs Terrace - my parents both died a few weeks ago and this makes me grateful of the timing - we were living there for the fire of 1975 and from then on, Mom was terrified of every summer and every dry spell.
